MAVERICK VIRTUES

Our Maverick Virtues are based on Catholic Social Teaching.  Students at St. Mary Magdalen are empowered with all eight virtues each year. The words are discussed and alive all year long, but each month includes a special focus on a particular Maverick Virtue to empower students to develop the Virtue. The school community of teachers, staff, parents, and students helps every student reveal the Maverick Virtue from within. Below is a list of the Maverick Virtues, which balances the character development of our students between exercising Catholic faith through active witness to improve the world and active witness to improve the self.

Dignity: each one of us is a beloved child of God

Justice: serving and walking with others, especially the poor, sick, vulnerable, and those on the margins

Curiosity: questions are just as important as answers

Resilience: effort and struggle are necessary and invigorating aspects of building the Kingdom of God

Zeal: a fire that burns within to know, love and serve God

Self-Discipline: creating space and time for God

Gratitude: practicing thanks for the blessings God has provided

Stewardship: caring for creation
